Mark S. Cottrell

Mark Scott Cottrell, the son of Wilbert Edward and Charlotte Mae (Bennett) Cottrell, was born in Woodbury, New Jersey on June 28, 1954. Mark entered eternal rest on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at the Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston, IA at the age of 59 years, 11 months and 11 days old.
Mark was raised in New Jersey and Maryland and graduated high school in Aberdeen, Maryland with the Class of 1973. Following graduation, Mark worked several years for the V.A. Hospital in Maryland. He later began driving a truck all across the country selling Woodworking tools. Mark trained to become a Pastry Chef and worked mostly in Montana and Oregon. While living in Oregon, he taught prison inmates apprentice skills to become Bakers.
On June 24, 1995, Mark married Elaine Dedrick in Hermiston, Oregon. Mark lovingly accepted Elaine’s three daughters as his own. The family settled in Corning, IA in 2001 because it was centrally located for their traveling. Mark was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lenox, IA.
Left to cherish Mark’s memory is his wife, Elaine Cottrell of Corning, IA; his three step-daughters: Sabrina Wright of Creston, IA, Melisa Schroeder of Gig Harbour, WA and Vanessa Schroeder (Fiance’ Jason Arnold) of Chinook, WA; 10 step-grandchildren; his mother, Charlotte Cottrell of Spring, TX and mother-in-law, Ida Cook of Creston, IA. Mark is also survived by his brothers: Dean (Kim) Cottrell of Churchville, MD and Clinton (Kathy) Cottrell of Bel Air, MD; his sisters: Jan (Brian) Child of Gilbert, AZ, Leesa Maresh of Corning, IA, Lorry (Rob) Thorburn of Lake Elsinor, CA and Peri (Andrew) Speckhard of Spring, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Wilbert Edward Cottrell; his father-in-law, Al Dedrick and a sister, Glennis Cottrell.
The family is in charge of Memorial services to be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with the time to be determined. No public viewing or visitation is planned. Memorial contributions may be directed to HCI Care Services. On-Line condolences may be left at www.pearsonfuneralhomes.com.
