Michael “Mike” Allen Sluyter Sr., the son of Harold Eugene and Patricia Jane (Pickenpaugh) Sluyter, was born October 28, 1967 in Omaha, Nebraska. Mike passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017 at his home in Creston at the age of forty-nine years, four months, and nineteen days. Mike graduated from North High School in Omaha with the class of 1985. He moved to Creston in 1998.
Mike worked various jobs in his life, including being a supervisor at Ferrara Candy Company and several construction jobs, which he did until his retirement in 2010. He was known as “Mr. Fix-it” to his family and was a very good artist. Mike loved wood carving and music, especially classic rock. His biggest joy in life was being a dad and grandpa. He was a great son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend.
Preceding Mike in death were his parents.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons: Andrew McGuire of Overland Park, Kansas, Jason (Kenzie Pinky) McGuire of Omaha, Nebraska and Michael Sluyter Jr. of Mount Ayr; daughters: Lena ( John) Darling of Creston and Amanda ( JD Gaiser) Steinbach of Creston; eleven grandchildren; brothers: Jim (Barb) Sluyter of Omaha, Nebraska, Lloyd Sluyter of Omaha, Nebraska and John Sluyter of Omaha, Nebraska; sister, Lisa (Charlie) Hensel of Creston and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
