The family of Natalie Coen-Jiede will be conducting a Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, October 7, 2006, at Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service of Creston. Family and friends are invited to meet at Crestmoor Golf Club following the service. Private family inurnment will be at the Calvary Cemetery, Creston, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (www.jdrf.org) or the Lung Cancer Alliance (www.lungcanceralliance.org).
Natalie Coen-Jiede was born to Shirley (Hall) and Edward Coen on September 18, 1951, in Creston, Iowa. Natalie entered eternal rest on August 31, 2006, at the University of Chicago Hospital at the age of fifty-four years, eleven months, and thirteen days.
Natalie graduated from Creston High School with the class of 1969. She was a member of the 1968 State Champion High School Girls Golf Team. Natalie graduated from Iowa State University in 1973. On May 17, 1980, she married Greg Jiede at Wilmette, IL.
After graduation from Iowa State University, Natalie began her thirty-three year career of Federal government service, recently serving as the Deputy Regional Inspector General, Department of Health and Human Services. Her career started with the Social Security Administration, transferring to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services to conduct investigations of health care fraud and abuse. In 1983, she began working in the Office of Inspector General. One of her more notable achievements was her authorship of a report on quality problems with clinical laboratory testing. Many of her recommendations were included in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988. Natalie also directed studies on physician ownership of clinical laboratories, with many of her recommendations included in the “Stark Law”.
Natalie received numerous awards throughout her Federal career, including the Inspector General Bronze Medal Award for Outstanding Employee of the Year in 1998; and an Award for Excellence by the Presidents Council on Integrity and Efficiency.
Natalie was preceded in death by her parents. Left to mourn her passing are her husband: Greg Jiede, Elmhurst, IL; and her brothers: Douglas (wife Denise), Cedar Falls, Iowa; and Jeffery (wife Janet) Coen, Dallas, TX.
