Patricia Schlapia

Patricia Jane (Harvey) Schlapia, the daughter of Teresa (Bradley) and Harry Harvey, was born October 23, 1930 in Creston, Iowa. Patty entered eternal rest on February 26, 2014 at Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston, Iowa at the age of eighty-three years, four months, and three days.
Patty attended St. Malachy School and graduated from Creston High School with the Class of 1948. She attended Creston Junior College. On July 14, 1951, Patty married Harry M. Schlapia in Creston.
Patty was a member of Holy Spirit Parish. She was a loving elementary room mother for twenty-six years and other various roles in her children’s school lives. She never missed any of their activities and continued this tradition with her grandkids. Patty loved working at the elections and funeral dinners. Watching parades, chasing fire trucks (only after applying fresh lipstick) and dancing with Harry were some of her favorite past-times.
Patty is survived by her four daughters: Chris (Rob) Burlingame, Des Moines; Mary Lynn (Jim) Baker, Creston; Dorothy Davenport, Des Moines, and Susie (Steve) Biley, Des Moines; two sons: Pat Schlapia, Creston; and John Schlapia, Creston; Twelve grandchildren: Jason (Haley) Schlapia; Sonny (Brooke Wikoff) Schlapia; Tony Schlapia; Cassie (Blake Wikoff) Schlapia; Renea (Michael) Burg; Jeffrey Baker; Megan (Jared) Andrews; Jessica (Bryan) Moriarty; Kevin (Tara McCulley) Burlingame; Trevor (Alaina Despenas) Biley; Brigette Biley; and Ellie Davenport; Ten great-grandchildren: Taylor; Katlyn; Shannon; Jayden; Maverick; Jaxton; Abigail; McKenna; Sage; and Keaton; two sisters: Teresa Johannes, Hastings, Nebraska; and Dorothy (Mike) Callan, Livonia, Michigan; one brother: Vince Harvey, Des Moines; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Teresa Harvey; her husband, Harry; her son, Michael Schlapia; her grandson, Corbyn Biley; one great-grandson; and her sister, Joanie Eckerman.
