Penelope “Penny” Leigh Turner, the daughter of Vestal and Peggy (Gray) Stone, was born on March 13, 1962, in Kansas City, Kansas. Her family moved to Des Moines when Penny was a young girl. She attended school through the tenth grade in Des Moines. Penny married Michael Turner, Sr., in Des Moines and three boys, Mike, Matt and Steve, were born to this union. They divorced after 17 years. Penny and Gary Meier had a son, Mark. Penny lived in Corning, Iowa and Texas for several years before moving to Creston in April of 2016.
Penny worked at various retail stores in Des Moines and multiple jobs in this area including Lakeside Casino in Osceola, Farm Home and Trolley in Creston before her health declined.
Penny loved to play puzzle games on her computer, watch Hallmark and Lifetime movies and enjoyed shopping on the QVC channel. She liked to go fishing when she could and loved interacting with her grandchildren when she was able. Penny enjoyed collecting anything with “Peace Signs”.
Left to cherish her memory are three sons, Mike (Aimee) Turner of Creston, Matt (Jenny) Turner of Pleasant Hill, IA, Steve Turner of Creston; six grandchildren: Corbin, Emmitt, Caleb, Rason, Slade Tukker Turner; brothers Rick Stone and Tony Stone; sisters: Gina Kearney, Patsy Giles, Pam Meier (Penny’s twin), Tessie Elijha, Cathy Mouzakis; parents, Stoney Lou Stone, Peggy Gray; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding Penny in death were her grandparents, son, Mark “Moose” Meier, and brother, Jeff Stone.
Penny will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
