Ray D. Scurlock

Burial will be at the Graceland Cemetery with Military Honors by Theodore J. Martens VFW Post #1797. Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church and/or Creston Appalachia Service Project.Ray Don Scurlock, the son of Reuben Seth and Lucy Ann (McWilliams) Scurlock, was born on November 7, 1929 at Exline, Iowa. Ray entered eternal rest on March 31, 2008, at the Greater Regional Medical Center, Creston, Iowa, at the age of seventy-eight years, four months, and twenty-five days.
Ray graduated from Centerville High School in May 1947. He lived in Centerville, Iowa, until entering the service. Ray served in the United States Air Force from 1951 until 1953. He graduated from Centerville Community College in 1956.
Ray was working for the Iowa Southern Utilities when he moved to Creston in 1963. On February 14, 1970, he married Midge Sears at Creston, Iowa.
Ray then worked for Draper Insurance. He later purchased Draper Insurance and owned and operated Scurlock Insurance. Ray later brought in Phil Tyler as a partner and retired about 1992. Ray was a member of the First Christian Church; Crestmoor Golf Club; the Elks Lodge in Creston; and the Masonic Lodge.
Left to cherish Rays memory are his wife: Midge Scurlock, Creston; his children: Sharlene (Dave) Kragel, Morristown, TN; Rod (Inge) Sears, Clive, Iowa; Sam Sears, Marietta, GA; Susy (Tim) Carroll, Madison, AL; Eight Grandchildren: Alex and Ryan Kragel; Jordan and Gavin Sears; Bill and Elizabeth Sears; Matt and Megan Carroll; his brothers: Gene Scurlock; Estero,FL; and Paul Scurlock, San Antonio, TX; and his sisters: Lorraine (Wally) Jeffries, Manhattan, KS; Kathryn (David) Erickson, Russell, IA; and Karen (Tom) Luse, Kilbourne, LA.
Preceding Ray in death were his Parents, his Brother: Carl Scurlock; and Two Sisters-in-Law: Joann and Betty Scurlock.
