Richard Schrodt

Feb 11, 1950 — Oct 7, 2026

Killeen, Texas

Richard Allen Schrodt, of Killeen, Texas, age 76, accompanied Jesus to Heaven 10/7/26. Born 02/11/1950, Richard was the 2nd son of Leo and Helen Schrodt of Creston, Iowa. At 2 weeks of age, he required a major operation in order to survive. Relatives wondered if he would survive babyhood, but Richard beat medical records as he survived many crisis, including a 2013 single lung transplant and double amputation of both legs. He died at home of Vascular Stoppages to the brain.

Richard joined the Navy right out of High School. In the bottom of a ship most of his 4 years, he did go inland in Viet Nam wherein he stood guard in Agent Orange sprayed ground. Upon return home, he attended Creston College to become a carpenter, but found cold winters so bitter that he rejoined the military, now the Army, which he loved because he helped soldiers practice war strategies in the warm Mohave Desert. He credits the Army with helping him get sober. He died with 42 years of sobriety.

Returning to Creston and carpentry, cold winters again gave him cause to explore careers. He joined Vision Quest, wherein judges would offer juvenile criminals to join a Wagon Train for 1 year rather than go to Juvenile Jail for 1 year. Richard became the Scout for the mule-drawn Wagon Train traveling up and down the East Coast. Upon his return to Iowa, he immediately went to an AA Dance in Des Moines wherein he met his wife of 33 years, Bobbi. She at first wondered if he was “touched” when he said he’d just crawled off a wagon train.

Richard loved Jesus and hoped to influence as many people as possible to also love Jesus so they would also gain entry to Heaven.

Richard loved being a dad and grandpa. He is survived by his son Shad Waggoner (Shandra) , of Boulder, Colorado, his daughter Shaylene Waggoner of Phoenix, Arizona, and “Son,” Peter Nguoth of Chandler, Arizona. His beloved grandchildren are Sheridan Collins, Kennedy Waggoner, Brody Collins, Kole Waggoner, Olivia Causey, and Night Waggoner. He has 4 great granddaughters: Brinley, Aspen, Nevaeh, and Indie and a great grandson will arrive in December! His deceased brother Donald’s son is nephew Scott Harlan of Iowa.

His funeral will be at 1st Baptist Church of Trimmier, 6405 Chaparral Road, Killeen, Texas, on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, with “meet and greet” at 10 am, and funeral at 11 am.

He will then be flown to Iowa, wherein later services will be held at the Chapel in Graceland Cemetery, Creston, Iowa on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Services will be held from 10:30am to 12pm. Burial will follow.
