Shirley Snodgrass

June 28, 1924 — March 10, 2018

Shirley Drusilla Snodgrass, the daughter of Buell “Clyde” Adams and Lela Martha (Rogers) Adams, was born in Winterset, Iowa on June 28, 1924. The family moved to Creston when Shirley was 4 years old and she attended Creston schools. Shirley graduated from Creston High School with the Class of 1942. During high school, Shirley worked for her father at the United Food Store and later for JC Penney and the S L Department Store in Creston. On March 19, 1944, Shirley married Wayne Eugene “Hop” Snodgrass in Creston. The couple was blessed with two children: Sue and Bob.
When Shirley’s kids were still young, she began working full time at Midwest Credit in Creston. She would work there for over 10 years until 1969. Shirley and Hop then purchased the business and changed the name to Community Credit Services. She would continue to operate her business until her retirement. Never one to be idle, Shirley worked as the Secretary at the First Christian Church for several years. She was an avid collector of antiques and sold antiques at her store, Grandma’s Attic Antiques.
Faith was an important part of Shirley’s life and she was a devoted, life-long member of the First Christian Church. She was a Sunday School teacher and Youth Group leader for many years. Shirley also served as an Elder and a Deacon in the church. She never missed a Sunday service as long as her health permitted. Shirley was active in the BPW and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Shirley’s interests were many as she was an avid Bridge card player, enjoyed golfing and was in charge of organizing her Class reunions for many years. Shirley loved to go fishing and would travel with her family to Minnesota most summers to fish, a tradition started by her parents that she and Hop passed on to her family. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Hop Snodgrass; her brother, Carl Adams; her sister, Eileen McCann and her parents. She was also preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Elda Adams, her brother-in-law, Vince McCann and a niece, Judy (Adams) Crigger and her husband Dwayne.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Sue (husband Steve) Tilley, Creston; her son, Bob (wife LouAnn) Snodgrass, Creston; her 4 grandchildren: Jodi Tilley Johnson, Jeff Tilley, Adam Snodgrass and Sean Snodgrass; her 8 great-grandchildren: Katie Adair, Chelsea Johnson, Wyatt Ray, George Tilley, Addison Snodgrass, Aiden Snodgrass, Emma Snodgrass and Bennett Snodgrass; and by her many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. May God grant comfort and strength to those who mourn.
