Steven Abell, 77, of Creston, Iowa formerly of Cromwell, Iowa passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Creston Specialty Care.  Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at the Cromwell United Church of Christ, Rev. Mary O’Riley officiating.  Steven will be laid to rest in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Cromwell, Iowa with Military Honors provided by the United States Air Force and Theodore J. Martens VFW Post #1797.  Open visitation will be from 3-7:30 PM, Monday, February 12, 2024 at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center of Creston with the family receiving friends from 6-7:30 PM.  Memorial contributions may be directed to the Steven Abell Memorial Fund, to be established by the family.  Memories and condolences can be shared online at www.pearsonfuneralhomes.com.

Steven Eugene Abell was born September 16, 1946 in Creston, Iowa, the 5th of 6 sons born to Charles Herbert and Jessie Elizabeth (Dorsey) Abell.  Steven was raised in the Cromwell area, graduated Creston High School and was drafted into the United States Air Force in 1965.  He served 4 years and 6 months during the Vietnam War and was Honorably Discharged in July 1969.  On January 12, 1967, Steven was united in marriage to Irene Eleanor Perkerwicz.  Three children were born to bless this union:  Danny, Paula and Michelle.  

Upon his return to civilian life, Steven worked various jobs in the area including Burlington Northern Railroad and Purolator.  He eventually began a long career working for Wellman Dynamics as a Heat Treater.  He retired from Wellman’s and loved the time spent with his family and friends.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

 Steven is survived by his children:  Danny (wife Patty) Abell of Greenfield, Iowa; Paula (husband Darrell) Bates of Fontanelle, Iowa; and Michelle Snyder of Creston, Iowa.  He is also survived by 5 grandchildren:  Shawna, Kayla, Briley, Tyler and Massie; 1 great-grandson, Drey; and sisters-in-law:  Sharon Abell of Cromwell, Iowa; Mary Abell of Creston, Iowa; Phyllis Abell of Colorado; Mary Jorgenson of Minnesota; and Nancy Abell of Creston, Iowa.

 Preceding Steven in death was his wife, Irene in 2003; his 5 brothers:  Joe, Jim, Jackie (infant), Fred and Rod Abell; his parents; brother-in-law, Ron Jorgenson; and sister-in-law, Catherine Nystul.
