Velma D. Ray was born to Sarah Ethyl (Ballard) and Charles Stephens on October 29, 1910, in Afton, Iowa. Velma entered into the presence of her Savior on February 24, 2006, at Valley View Village in Des Moines at the age of ninety-five years, three months, and twenty-eight days.
Velma married Willis Richard Ray on January 30, 1932, in Grant City, Missouri. Velma and Willis farmed near Nevinville. Velma was a homemaker. They also owned the Phillips 66 Station east of Creston for a number of years. Velma was a member of the First Baptist Church of Creston.
Left to mourn Velmas passing are her Son: Larry ( wife Marcia) Ray, Newton, Iowa; Daughter: Dawna Ray, Windsor Heights, Iowa; Three Grandchildren: Lori (husband Scott) VanZee; Craig Ray; Rod (wife Jodie) Ray; Three Great-Grandchildren: Chelsea VanZee; Nate VanZee; Jordan Ray; her Brother-in-Law: Lee Ray, Lake Tahoe, California; her Sister-in-Law: Carrie Baier, Greenfield, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Preceding Velma in death were her Parents; Husband Willis in 1988; Sisters: Mabel Clayton and Cecyle Hawkins; and Great-Granddaughter: Katie Jo VanZee.
