Lana (Minnick) Hufnagel left a message on January 1, 2019:
I am so sorry to see this on Kathy Schafer. I am a former junior-college friend who also majored in music. We sang together in small groups, like a sextet, and sometimes stood together on the risers when she wasn’t playing piano for the large groups. Kathy and I both attended and graduated from Northwest Missouri State In 1970. She was a sweet, very talented lady. I send my deepest sympathy to the family and friends. God bless you, Kathy, and Rest In Peace. ?❤️ Lana (Minnick) Hufnagel

So sorry for your loss. I was one of your Mom's piano and organ students from about 1964-1967. Learned a lot from here and enjoyed seeing you three grow. She was always able to teacher and give you the care you needed at the same time! So glad to have that training. Organists are a rare find and I still play in my church. Leota Smejdir Taylor

Kathy's and my Mom's (Joni Redel) laughter, sometimes to the point of tears, are some of the happiest memories of my childhood. So glad we were a part of each other's "Framilies"! I can only imagine their reunion - brings a smile to my face. So sorry for our loss here on earth. My thoughts are with you Marlys, Meegan and Mark (and families/framilies) - Connie Redel Rowe
Jeffrey A. Cook left a message on November 27, 2018:
Marlys, Meegan, Mark and Family - your Mom was a wonderful person and terrific Choir Director at the First United Methodist Church in Corning. I consider it an honor and privilege to have known her - and to know the 3 of you. Words cannot properly describe the sorrow I feel for you and yours. Your Mom and my Mom worked closely together all those years ago, and your Mom even worked with me on my State Vocal Music Solos. She even helped me with my transition from a Baritone to a First Tenor from fall 1976 through fall 1977 when I would come home for weekends from Simpson College. She was a great woman; the world is a better place today because of Kathy Schafer. May God wrap his loving arms around you now and forever. - Jeffrey A. Cook (Class of 1976)

Meegan and family, I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. I did not know her well but in knowing Meegan I know Kathy was a wonderful mother. Wishing you God’s peace.

Jean Harkey left a message on November 21, 2018:
What a beautiful tribute and obituary. Not only was she very musically talented, her writing was extremely skillful. I only knew Kathy for a short time, but I'm sure her daughter, Meegan, is an indication of how great of a mother she was, Her family was very loved by her and they, in turn, loved her. She will be greatly missed. Our heartfelt condolences to the family; prayers to all of you. Jean and Dan Harkey

To Kathy’s family, My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family at this sad time and in the days, weeks, months and years to come. It is always difficult to lose the one that we love and hold dear in our heart. I always enjoyed listening to Kathy play the organ at church and any place she was sharing her musical talents. Thinking of all of you, Dianne Davis
