In Lieu of Flowers?

Often times in an obituary you will see “In lieu of flowers”. Does that mean the family does not want flowers? The family of the deceased may live away from where the funeral or memorial service is to be held and taking those flowers back home may be a challenge. Or the family members are not necessarily “flower people”. A good way to show your love and support instead of flowers is to make a memorial contribution to the designated place or organization in the deceased’s name.
